Teaching Philosophy
It is my role as a teacher to greet students at the door in the morning with a smile on my face. In order for students to be successful, they need to know that they are loved, cherished, and cared for. One of my favorite quotes from G.K. Chesterton states, “Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed.” In the classroom, students are going to come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring a variety of experiences with them. Each student is going to have their own traumas or dragons in their life, and I want my classroom to be a place where dragons are defeated. By creating a safe learning environment, students can come to school ready to take risks. I want to give students the tools they need to push themselves past their comfort zone. Once students know that they are loved, cherished, and safe, the magic students read about in fairy tales is transferred into their own hands and my job is to teach them how to make it happen.
